I mounted these on my 2005 Ford F-150. About 15 miles down the road at 65mph caused one of the clamps to fail! This resulted in two kayaks and the complete rack system to go bouncing down interstate 15. Thank God the RV behind me was able to brake and move to the shoulder, so no one else was involved.

There are NO torque measurements given in the instructions, and NO notes as to just what "tighten" means, so I tightened down on the truck top "very firmly", but not to the point I thought might break something. They did not hold. Thule is asking for a piece of steel tucked into the truck door jam by about 1/4 inch to do a lot, which in my case they could not.

I've seen plenty of these systems on the road, so I would assume that for the most part they are sturdy enough. So that leaves me wondering why mine failed. Did I not tighten them enough? Or, was one of the "feet" defective? I'll never know, and I'll never buy Thule again, and I will warn others.
