Only one other reviewer mentions this: despite the multiple velcro tabs, the top does not adhere tightly around my ankles.

I have relatively thin ankles, and with each step there is significant gap at either the front or back as my lower leg goes forward and back.

Thus, when coming through the surf, sand and pebbles will get inside.

I thought I should mention this for any others who thought this would make a good surf shoe.

[I have a partial solution to this - wrap a piece of long velcro through the top loop and all around the top of the boot to keep out most of the sand/pebbles.]

Otherwise, I agree with the other reviewers that the sole provides real protection and is a good boot for kayaking on lakes and rivers - as long as you don't stir up too much sand/stones as you get in and out of the kayak.

There is enough support that walking even a moderate distances is a pleasure, provided there are not pebbles in the shoes.
