Great rod even though lure weight is more like 2-4 ozs than the 3-8 stated in the description and on the rod itself. I use this rod for chucking 3 and 4 oz sinkers with bait for fluke/summer flounder and clam rigs for stripers. It has plenty of backbone when I pulled in a 41 inch striper this past summer. The rod loads and casts very well and very accurate. I have not used my rod yet for throwing large poppers or heavier tins yet, because I use my 9 foot spinfisher for lure fishing, so I can not make a judgement on that. I also use mono as my fishing line and can't make a judgement for braided use either. For the price, it does the basic, catch fish, as any other high end rod on the market but with some of the same features and upside over low end rods. I recomend this rod for anyone who doesn't want or doesn't need a $400-$700 lami.Update: I just starting using my 11 foot Cedros for tossing an Afterhours pencil, AH squid and AH needlefish plugs, other poppers, polaris poppers, all in the 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 ounce range. I would say the 3 ounces is the cherry for this rod and can handle 3 1/2 just as good. The rod casted each weight and lure anywhere from 75 to 100 yards. I also just started using braided line and the guides hold up very well, no signs of wear or damage yet. I updated my rating from 4 stars to 5.
Update 11/04/2012: I fished this rod most the season baitfishing from the surf chucking as much as 6ozs of lead, clam bellies or bunker and mullet chunks using a OTB cast and the rod even handle that very well, was casting an easy 125+ yards. I did have to replace the tip guide, I crack it one night when I reeled in too much and the swivel got stuck.
