BASIL JADA DOUBLE BAG BLUEBERRY PURPLE Review

I'm so excited because I just received these as a Christmas gift from my boyfriend. This will be my third set of Basil bags...each of the previous two sets held up very well with constant and heavy use for about 3 - 4 years apiece. I just can't find anything else on the market that I like as much in design and sturdiness.

I'm a daily bike commuter, with an exceptionally cute bike, so not just any old bag will do aesthetically. ;) That said, I also carry a huge amount of stuff with me so need lots of cargo room. I've always loved the traditional Basil bags, but I'm excited about this design's updates:

1) pockets - the old design had the two main compartments. Fine for most loads, but inconvenient when you have your bags full then also need to fit in your bike lock and any other extras. This new design has a zippered exterior pocket on each bag (covered by the large flaps), also an interior pocket and elastic straps to hold miscellaneous items in place.

2) top straps/connecting to bike rack - The old bags had a flat piece of fabric covering the bike rack with straps to secure the bags to the rack. This was fine because there were also built in handles, but the new design is even more convenient because there are instead two straps connecting the panniers. It was much easier to attach the bags, plus leaves it easier to attach a cargo net or bungee to the rack for other items.

3) flaps - My main beef (well, the only thing that I really disliked) about the old design is that the buckles wear out more quickly than the bag. The sun and other elements broke down the webbed straps and plastic buckles. This design has the flap covering the straps and buckles. I suspect that this will minimize exposure and make them longer lasting.

I can't wait to see how these new bags hold up. I'm a huge fan of the Basil bags, and have lived with them for years now. If your budget allows, this design is more than worth the extra. If you're looking more in the price range for the other design, you really can't go wrong with those either.
